Presenting Corey Knight: Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

From Mr. Corey Knight CEO of Art-N-Hustle

Powerful Stuff

presentingcorey:

I first heard the above line from a poem by Marianne Williamson when watching the movie Coach Carter. The poem in its entirety hit me, hit me really hard. Growing up I was the so called “smart kid” far from a genius but I got good grades and I remember a few kids doing their best to make fun of me for doing so. Things like “oh you think you white” or “you think you better than us”. As a young kid we all have that natural feeling of wanting to fit in so many dumb themselves down to the level of those around them. All this came back to me the other day when my nephew called me going through the same thing. I told my nephew what my dad told me when I complained to him about what kids were saying. He said ” It is easy to be mediocre, it is easy to fail and those that do so want everyone around them to do the same so they have company at the bottom.”

It is human nature to want to fit in and go with the flow of those around you, but I believe each of us have the things necessary to be great. The thing is will we allow ourselves to be great? Will we get out of our own way? Sometimes we are afraid of our own light and the power we can possess. Below are the words of Marianne Williamson, I hope they inspired you like that have me.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson
